- Matrix boulder Opal pendant set in Sterling Silver. - Pendant size is 49mm high by 20mm wide by 5mm thick. - Spectacular green, red & blue colours in this Opal from Koroit, Queensland, Australia. - The sterling silver bezel enhances this lovely opal and gives it a real feeling of solidarity. Here is the extract from the local Bellingen newspaper article: Mac Wins Yet Again! The annual Opal Jewellery Design Awards have been held at the outback town of Yowah for 2014, and our local, organic, homegrown jeweller has blitzed it. His entry of 'Big Boy' took out the category Two Award, a pendant created from 18 ct gold, silver and an opal with predominantly green flash. Yowah is a small opal mining town, too small to be on the map, approx. 1,000 kms west of Brisbane, where the night sky envelops you, you are swallowed by stars and the red heart landscape emanates as much heat from the ironstone ground as the sun that beats down from above. A true prime example of our sunburnt country which we love. This harsh outback climate is not for the fainthearted. True ocker blokes ply with these iron backed conditions to wrest this magnificent splay of colour from the rocks that are buried deep within the desert floor. Mac, a onetime miner, is now primarily a cutter and a jeweller, described in magazines as 'a precious metal and gemstone artist', which is a title that Mac has taken on board and embraced. Yowah hosts this festival annually, and Mac has been a supporter and winner since 1998, with no immediate intention of retirement. The winning big boy of a piece will be on display in Mac's Art Jewellery Studio on Hyde. See all the winning entries
